Terra Tea: Social Responsibility Disclosure

Aligned to ISO 26000:2010 — Guidance on Social Responsibility

We believe business can be a force for good.

Rooted in the wisdom of Tri Hita Karana — harmony with nature, oneself, and community — Terra Tea is built on the conviction that what we do must benefit not just our customers, but the land and people who make our tea possible.

This disclosure sets out how Terra Tea lives its commitment to responsible business, guided by the ISO 26000:2010 international standard on social responsibility.

Who We Are

Terra Tea LLP is a purpose-driven tea social enterprise, incorporated in Singapore and rooted in the highlands of Jatiluwih, Bali. We source our Red Rice Tea directly from smallholder farmers at the foot of the sacred Mount Batukaru — a UNESCO Heritage Site where rice has been cultivated for centuries with reverence, prayer, and care for the land.

We are passionate about restoring holistic well-being in modern living, preserving the culture and farming traditions of Bali, creating sustainable livelihoods for farmers, and giving back to the local community.

Terra Tea is incorporated as a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) in Singapore, with two founding partners: Lim Hui Shan and Lim Hui Fang. Our Bali operations are led by our trusted local partner from the Jatiluwih community.

Our Approach to Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is not a policy we apply to our business. It is the reason our business exists. Every decision we make — from how we price our tea to how we deliver donations — is shaped by our commitment to doing what is right for people, community, and the earth.

We voluntarily align our practices to ISO 26000:2010, the international standard providing guidance on social responsibility. This standard covers seven core principles and seven core subjects, which are reflected throughout this disclosure.

The Seven Principles We Commit To

ISO 26000 Principle

What This Means for Terra Tea

How We Live This

Accountability

We take ownership of our impact on society, the economy, and the environment.

20% of net profits donated to local beneficiaries. Dual-approval process on all company finances.

Transparency

We openly share who we are, how we work, and what our business does.

This public disclosure. Open communication of sourcing origins, pricing philosophy, and community engagements.

Ethical Behaviour

We act with honesty, fairness, and integrity in all our relationships.

We pay either above the asking market price for red rice tea, or give back in kind via gifts — as a matter of principle.

Respect for Stakeholder Interests

We listen to and consider the needs of all those affected by our work.

Ongoing dialogue with our local partner, farming community, customers, and beneficiaries. 7-day customer refund policy.

Respect for the Rule of Law

We comply with all applicable laws in Singapore and Indonesia.

ACRA-registered LLP. Singapore import and food permits. Indonesian food producer licensing.

Respect for International Norms

We uphold international ethical norms even where local law is silent.

We apply ISO 26000 as a voluntary international standard guiding all operations.

Respect for Human Rights

We protect the dignity and rights of every person in our supply chain and community.

All partnerships entered through mutual agreement. No child labour. Direct donations to beneficiaries without intermediaries.

Community Involvement & Giving Back

Giving back is written into our business model, because we believe that the better we do, the more good we can do for our communities. At least 20% of all Terra Tea net profits are shared with Balinese charity organisations to support farmer wellbeing, cultural continuity, and local resilience.

What This Looks Like

  • Direct cash donations to an elderly woman living alone in Jatiluwih, delivered in person during Hui Shan’s sourcing visits to Bali with no intermediaries and no overheads.
  • We are exploring a long-term collaboration with the underserved children’s community in Bali, with the hope of supporting their schooling journey across the years.
  • By paying our local partner farm either above the Indonesian market price or giving back in kind via gifts, we create sustainable livelihoods for the farmers who make Terra Tea possible.

We believe that when business is done with intention, every cup of tea becomes an act of community.

Responsible Sourcing & Supply Chain

Our Red Rice Tea is harvested from farmland in the Jatiluwih highlands by Putra’s family, roasted in small batches, and packed with care. Our team members visit Bali from time to time to visit our local beneficiaries in Bali. During these trips, we also connect with our supplier, building a relationship of trust and accountability that no courier can replicate.

Our Sourcing Commitments

  • Ethical pricing: We either pay above the asking market rate or give back in kind via gifts as a matter of principle.
  • Food safety: Following one occasion of customer feedback on contamination, we worked with our local family farm to conduct roasting and packing during daylight hours for better visibility and quality control, with more steps throughout to filter foreign objects.
  • Sustainability: Tea is freshly roasted in small batches with no preservatives, respecting the consumer’s health and the integrity of the product.
  • Due diligence: Hui Shan visits the plantation, processing site, roasting facility, and packing area to observe working conditions first-hand at every sourcing trip.
  • Ethical sourcing: No child labour. No forced labour. All work is performed by willing adults under mutually agreed terms.

Governance & Accountability

Terra Tea is a small team with a big responsibility. We hold ourselves to high standards of accountability and governance, proportionate to our size and values.

How Decisions Are Made

  • All major company decisions are made jointly by both founding partners in consultation with our team.
  • All company bank transactions require dual approval from both partners — a check-and-balance built into our operations from day one.
  • Key updates and decisions are communicated with all relevant partners through our shared communication channels.

Consumer Accountability

  • If any customer is dissatisfied with their product, we offer an immediate replacement, or a 100% money-back guarantee if raised within 7 days of purchase.
  • We take product quality feedback seriously. When customers reported finding contamination in the red rice tea, we worked immediately with our local partner farm to improve processing and packing protocols, with no incidents observed in subsequent batches.

Our Stakeholders

Terra Tea exists within a web of relationships. Each person and community touched by our work matters to us. We identify our stakeholders as:

  • Founding partners — Lim Hui Shan and Lim Hui Fang
  • Local partner and producer — Farming family in Jatiluwih
  • Community beneficiaries — an elderly woman living alone in Jatiluwih, and the potential future collaboration with the children’s community
  • Singapore customers — those who place their trust in our product
  • The Singapore wellness community — those whose values align with holistic, culturally meaningful living
  • The Singapore sustainability community – those who care about living in harmony with nature, environmental and social sustainability practices
  • Regulators — ACRA (Singapore), the Singapore Food Agency, and Indonesian food safety authorities

We engage our stakeholders through direct communication, personal visits, social media, wellness events, and open feedback channels. We are committed to ensuring that every stakeholder, including the quietest and most vulnerable, is seen, heard, and considered.

Our Relationship with the Environment

Our tea comes from Jatiluwih, a UNESCO Heritage Site where Balinese farmers have tended their rice terraces with sacred reverence for nature across generations. It is a living philosophy that shapes how we source, produce, and share our tea.

  • We source from a traditional, smallholder farming family who tend their land without industrial intervention.
  • Our tea contains no preservatives, no artificial additives, and is produced in small batches to minimise waste and ensure freshness.
  • We know that teabags are an easier, more convenient alternative, but chose to serve our tea in a way that eliminates the presence of microplastics typically released by teabags in hot water.
  • We are committed to not expanding production beyond what the land and the farming community can sustain.

Farmers tend to the land with great reverence for nature. With sacred prayers to bless the paddy fields daily, each rice grain is imbued with the spirit of Bali. We carry that spirit forward with every pack of tea we share.

Transparency & Disclosure

We are committed to honest, open communication with all who interact with Terra Tea.

  • This public disclosure is reviewed and updated regularly to reflect the current state of our practices.
  • Our business activities, social impact, sourcing origins, and community contributions are shared on our website and social media channels.
  • We are working towards publishing a visual process map of our full supply chain, from Jatiluwih paddy field to Singapore doorstep, so our customers can see exactly where their tea comes from and who it benefits.
  • We openly acknowledge the areas where we are still growing and improving. We are a small enterprise with big ambitions, and we will share our progress honestly.

Grievances & Dispute Resolution

We believe every concern deserves to be heard, and every grievance deserves a fair response. Terra Tea maintains a Dispute Resolution Mechanism available to all stakeholders, including our customers in Singapore, our family farm partner in Bali, and community beneficiaries in Jatiluwih.

  • For customer product issues: contact us within 7 days for a full replacement or 100% money-back guarantee.
  • For partner and supply chain concerns: raise issues directly with Hui Shan. All concerns are taken seriously and addressed without fear of reprisal.
  • For community concerns: reach us through direct contact or our anonymous feedback channel.
  • Our full Dispute Resolution Mechanism is available as a separate document upon request.

A Note from Our Founders

We started Terra Tea because we believe that the wisdom of Bali, of living in harmony with nature and community, is something the world needs more of.

Every cup of our Red Rice Tea carries that intention: grown with reverence, shared with care, and given back to the community that makes it possible.

We are grateful to our family farm partner, to the farmers of Jatiluwih, and to every customer who believes that business can be done differently.

— Lim Hui Shan & Lim Hui Fang, Founders, Terra Tea Co.
